Iremember sitting with my friend, Al having a pizza
and a beer at a local bar talking about the old times, and
how we might get ahead in the future.
Al and I met at soccer tryouts.
We were both trying to make the under-14 travel team in our town.
We
had attended different elementary schools because we
came from different ends of the town.
I was from the North side and went to North Elementary School and Al was from the South side and
went to the Center School.
We both made the team,
along with a lanky Irish kid named Brian.
Brian’s family
had moved here from Ireland when he was seven, and of
course, he was good at soccer!
That year we won regional championship, beating a team that was much bigger and stronger than we
were.
